EGI2024: Call for Abstracts!

EGI2024 will be held from 30 September to 4 October in Lecce, Italy. The annual EGI conference brings together diverse stakeholders from the broad scientific and data-intensive computing domain. The event is the perfect place to share results, ideas and trends on technical, policy and business perspectives, advancing the field of big data science for academia and industry.

The call for Abstracts is now open, with a deadline of 25 April 2024. 

Different types of contributions are welcome, such as short (10 min.) and long (20 min.) talks, posters and demonstrations on one of the following topics:

  • Needs and solutions in scientific computing.
  • Data innovations.
  • Environmental informatics.
  • Trust and security.
  • EOSC Developments and Open Science.

Call for papers: eSAAM 2024 on Data Spaces

The 4th Eclipse Security, Artificial Intelligence, Architecture, and Modelling (eSAAM) Conference on DATA SPACES will take place 22 October in Mainz, Germany. This event is organised by Instituto Tecnológico de Informática (ITI),  the coordinator of DATAMITE, along with the Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH), the Eclipse Foundation, and the University of Macedonia. The conference will bring together industry experts and researchers working on innovative software and systems solutions for data spaces.

The eSAAM 2024 on Data Spaces conference is an excellent platform for researchers to showcase their work to stakeholders from industry, standards bodies and open source initiatives, driving the evolution of data spaces. To this end, a call for papers has been launched with a submission deadline of 12 May.

This conference encourages submissions that report on constructive, design-oriented research on innovative artefacts, such as software, models, and methods related to the conference theme. The conference is focused on, but not limited to, the following topics of interest:

  • Data Space Security and Privacy.
  • Data Space Architecture.
  • AI and Machine Learning in Data Spaces.
  • Modelling  for Data Space Systems.

DATAMITE at the Data Spaces Symposium 2024

From 12 to 14 March, the Data Spaces Symposium took place in Darmstadtium, Frankfurt Region (Germany). Organised by the Data Spaces Support Centre (DSSC) and the Data Spaces Business Alliance (DSBA), this symposium is a pivotal gathering for those at the forefront of data space innovation and strategy. It serves as a platform to showcase the latest market-ready use cases, advanced technology solutions for existing and emerging data spaces. The Data Spaces symposium includes sessions from Data Week 2024

Under the theme "data value unlock!" Data Week organised 11 sessions, bringing together 65 speakers in total.  DATAMITE was proud to be part of the programme, taking part in the session called 'Navigating the Future of Data Monetisation: Insights from Horizon Europe projects'.  The session brought together six Horizon Europe projects – UPCAST, FAME, PISTIS, EnrichMyData, Graph-Massivizer and DATAMITE – to explore the multifaceted dimensions of data monetization. Through a comprehensive dialogue, all the projects together aimed to unravel the value, challenges, and approaches associated with transforming data into economic assets. Liliana Beltrán, Project Manager at ITI, was in charge of representing DATAMITE and sharing, among other things, the case studies of the project to address the challenges of data monetisation and to make European companies and administrations a relevant actor in the data economy. 

Through a comprehensive dialogue, all the projects together aimed to unravel the value, challenges, and approaches associated with transforming data into economic assets. Liliana Beltrán, Project Manager at ITI, was in charge of representing DATAMITE and sharing, among other things, the case studies of the project to address the challenges of data monetisation and to make European companies and administrations a relevant actor in the data economy.

Launch Event: showcasing the future of innovation in AI, Data, and Robotics, by Adra

On 9 February 2024 the “Launch Event: showcasing the future of innovation in AI, Data, and Robotics” took place, organised by  Adra-e (the AI Data Robotics Association). Adra-e, AIonDemand, and the European Commission came together to unveil the new batch of projects funded under several Horizon Europe 2023 and 2022 calls. DATAMITE was one of them.

The highlight of the event was a series of dynamic 2-minute pitch video presentations from the 54 projects funded across diverse domains. This unique format allowed each project to showcase its vision, objectives, and impact in a concise yet impactful manner. Santiago Cáceres, from ITI and coordinator of DATAMITE,  was in charge of representing the project with a video-pitch that synthesised and illustrated in a simple way our main objective, the way in which the developments are being carried out and validated and the benefits that DATAMITE will bring for the monetisation of the data.

International Conference on Future Networks & Distributed Systems (ICFNDS)

The International Conference on Future Networks and Distributed Systems (ICFNDS) took place on 21-22 December 2023 at the American University of the Emirates, Dubai, UAE. The 7th ICFNDS aimed to address advances in research on distributed systems and networks of the future, covering topics ranging from enabling technologies to emerging applications and industrial experiences, encouraging researchers and practitioners to exchange and share their experiences.

The University of Koblenz represented DATAMITE in the session entitled "Data trading and monetisation: Challenges and open lines of research". During its presentation, the University of Koblenz shared the technical and organisational challenges affecting data monetisation and identified those areas that need further research in order to push the boundaries of current knowledge with an emphasis on areas where research is currently limited or non-existent, and where DATAMITE is a pioneering project that will revolutionise data monetisation.

DATAMITE participates at InfoCom

On December 14th, the IT Innovation Center of OTE Group of Companies hosted a session at the 25 th Infocom World 2023 Conference in Athens focused on DATAMITE, called “DATA Monetization, Interoperability, Trading & Exchange”. The organised session was part of a scientific workshop entitled as “Modern Research and Development Projects: Creating the Pillar for Investment and Innovations in the ICT converged (Vertical) Markets”.

Infocom World 2023 Conference and Exhibition aimed to deal with several potential challenges rising from ongoing EU-funded research (i.e., either specific projects and/or wider innovative frameworks) allowing to identify, describe, evaluate and assess corresponding network and services solutions, that will boost the telecommunications market as well as other relevant vertical markets to higher levels and, in parallel, will create the framework for realising investments and promoting innovation, for the benefit of all involved end-users, such as corporate, residential, State Authorities, organisations, and many more.

Santiago Caceres Elvira, Project Manager of DATAMITE at ITI, initiated the session with insights into the DATAMITE’s  contributions to the European Data Monetization. Following this, Vasso Apostolopoulou, Innovation Engineer at Hellenic Telecommunications Organization, presented “Corporate Multi-Site Data Exchange”. Savvas Manikas, Data Analyst at HEDNO, continued with “Offering Data to Service Providers with Data Spaces” , and Vasilis Siopidis, Research Assistant at CERTH, concluded the session with “DATAMITE – The Architecture to Reach Monetization”. The session was moderated by Christos Gizelis, Principal Innovation Analyst at Hellenic Telecommunications Organization.

At the DATAMITE booth, hosted by the IT Innovation Center of OTE Group, some partners of the DATAMITE Consortium —HEDNO, ICCS, and AUSTRALO—  were present to formally introduce the project and provide complementary information. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with both DATAMITE partners as well as the project  “Digital Assistant'' – an interactive avatar.

DATAMITE at EclipseCon 2023

DATAMITE took part in EclipseCon 2023, organised in Ludwigsburg in October 2023 by the DATAMITE partner, Eclipse Foundation. EclipseCon is the leading conference for developers, architects, and open source business leaders to learn about Eclipse technologies and share best practices. Eclipse’s biggest event of the year connects the Eclipse ecosystem and the industry’s leading minds to explore common challenges and innovate together on open source runtimes, tools, and frameworks for cloud and edge applications, IoT, artificial intelligence, connected vehicles and transportation, digital ledger technologies, and much more. 

This makes EclipseCon the perfect scenario for DATAMITE to meet and make itself known among the community of more than 460 developers, architects, researchers and managers who attended the conference. During the four days of the event -a community day, plus three days of conferences- DATAMITE, from the Eclipse Research booth, exhibited a poster and handed out flyers and stickers to developers and people who showed interest in the project, having wide acceptance among the developer community.

DATAMITE at the European Big Data Value Forum 2023

The European Big Data Value Forum 2023 took place from the 25th to the 27th of October 2023 in Valencia, Spain. The event, organised by the Big Data Value Association (BDVA), brings together industry professionals, business developers, researchers and policy-makers from all over Europe and other regions of the world to advance policy actions, and industrial and research activities in the areas of Data and AI. 

DATAMITE could not miss the forum and was present during the three days with a booth. This allowed the members of the consortium who attended the event to promote DATAMITE, meet other European projects focused on Big Data and exchange ideas with the experts working on them. “We, DATAMITE, are very happy to be here, to be connected with all the European big data community. We are taking advantage of our presence here to discuss with sister projects and with other colleagues”, highlighted Santiago Cáceres, DATAMITE Project Coordinator.

In addition to the presence in the exhibition room, DATAMITE co-organised together with its Sister Projects PISTIS, UPCAST and FAME, the session "Technologies enabling the data economy". The session explored the pivotal role of AI, Data Trading, and Interoperability in shaping the future of the data economy. The esteemed panel of experts delved into the technologies, solutions, and frameworks driving data markets, monetization, exchange, and interoperability. The discussion was divided into two rounds, each featuring four expert speakers. 

The first round, called “Innovations in Data Trading, Monetisation and Exchange”, focused on the technological advancements, solutions, and implications for data trading, monetization, and exchange. A representative from each project explained to the session attendees the differentiating element of their project, and then answered questions from the moderator, Richard Lloyd Stevens, Associate Vice President at IDC. “Data is already the core product of many companies. The most conservative estimates say that by 2030 data Will generate around 800 billion", pointed out Richard Lloyd Stevens.

Liliana Beltrán, Project Manager at ITI - Instituto Tecnológico de Informática, was in charge of representing DATAMITE and sharing DATAMITE's vision for the future of the Data Economy and the paramount importance of robust use cases. "High-quality data is a fundamental aspect of successful data monetization".

The second round of the session, “Promoting Interoperability for a Flourishing Data Economy”, delved into the critical aspect of interoperability and its significance in promoting a robust data economy. It was moderated by Jordi Arjona Aroca, from ITI and DATAMITE Technical Coordinator. “We definitely expect to be here next year to show more results and keep on with the discussions we have started this year”, concluded Santiago Cáceres, the DATAMITE coordinator.

The EBDVF 2023 is organised by the Big Data Value Association (BDVA), in collaboration with INCLIVA VLC (Biomedical Research Institute), ITI (Investigate to Innovate), Polytechnic University of Madrid (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid),  Polytechnic University of Valencia (Universitat Politècnica de València) and  the European Commission (DG CNECT). It has been granted with the Spanish Presidency Auspice.


DATAMITE was presented at the ZSI Forum Privatheit

The Forum Privatheit of ZSI, a DATAMITE consortium partner, took place in Berlin, Germany, on 5 and 6 October. Daniela Fuchs, partner of DATAMITE, took the opportunity to present the project with a poster. 

ZSI presented the results of the first stakeholder workshop held at the DATAMITE Plenary Meeting in Athens in June 2023. This workshop focused on stakeholders' views on the non-monetary benefits of data sharing and validated and expanded six dimensions relevant to non-monetary effects together with stakeholders from the pilot studies of the project to further the analysis of the non-monetary aspects of data sharing.

The European Big Data Value Forum (EBDVF) 2023 will take place in Valencia from 25 to 27 October. Organised by the Big Data Value Association (BDVA), the EBDVF brings together industry professionals, business developers, researchers and policy-makers from all over Europe and other regions of the world to advance policy actions, and industrial and research activities in the areas of Data and AI.

DATAMITE is very proud to be one of the sponsors of the EBDVF 2023. As part of our sponsorship, the project will be present at the fair with a booth, where members of the DATAMITE Consortium will introduce the project and its progress to the attendees. In addition to the stand, DATAMITE, together with the European Projects UPCAST, FAME and PISTIS, organised the session “Data Sharing and Monetisation Platform Technology Enabling the Data Economy”.
