Launch Event: showcasing the future of innovation in AI, Data, and Robotics, by Adra
On 9 February 2024 the “Launch Event: showcasing the future of innovation in AI, Data, and Robotics” took place, organised by Adra-e (the AI Data Robotics Association). Adra-e, AIonDemand, and the European Commission came together to unveil the new batch of projects funded under several Horizon Europe 2023 and 2022 calls. DATAMITE was one of them.
The highlight of the event was a series of dynamic 2-minute pitch video presentations from the 54 projects funded across diverse domains. This unique format allowed each project to showcase its vision, objectives, and impact in a concise yet impactful manner. Santiago Cáceres, from ITI and coordinator of DATAMITE, was in charge of representing the project with a video-pitch that synthesised and illustrated in a simple way our main objective, the way in which the developments are being carried out and validated and the benefits that DATAMITE will bring for the monetisation of the data.

Women in Science Day: we are proud to be women scientists
Every 11th of February we celebrate the International Day of women and Girls in Science. This milestone is a celebration but, moreover, it is a reminder of the need to achieve equality in STEM in order to not miss any possible talent. “A significant gender gap has persisted throughout the years at all levels of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines all over the world. Even though women have made tremendous progress towards increasing their participation in higher education, they are still under-represented in these fields”, states the UN.
The DATAMITE consortium is acutely aware of the reality of inequality in the STEM sector and fully supports measures to promote and establish real equality, both within the project consortium and across the scientific community. At DATAMITE we are aware that we are a rare bird, as we have a large number of women in our ranks. And yet, we are far from the desired equality.
Naturally, the focus today is on the women who are part of the project and who have joined forces to shout out loud "we are proud to be women scientists".

Meet the people behind DATAMITE: Ricardo Almeida Henriques (E-REDES)
DATAMITE is an ambitious project with a consortium of 26 organisations from 11 countries, but beyond the numbers are the people. With the series "Meet the people behind DATAMITE" we want to introduce the people who work every day to achieve our ambitious goal: to deliver a modular, open-source and multi-domain Framework to improve data monetising, interoperability, trading and exchange in the form of software modules, training and business materials for European companies, empowering them to become new relevant players in the data economy.
Today we present Ricardo Almeida Henriques from E-REDES –the Portuguese main electricity distribution system operator. His role within DATAMITE is “to coordinate and contribute to the E-REDES pilot which we called ‘leverage electricity distribution open data’. In 2022 we have launched an open data portal which contains different types of datasets related to electricity distribution activity, and it's targeted to different types of stakeholders as well, such as universities, research institutes, municipalities and also consumers”. He explains.
When asked what makes DATAMITE special, Ricardo believes that “DATAMITE is a very ambitious project because it will cover aspects from the creation of the data, to data sharing with data spaces, and data monetization. And the technical developments of the project will significant contribute to energy sector stakeholders”.
