Meet the people behind DATAMITE: Mariano Blaya Andreu (IDSA)
DATAMITE is an ambitious project with a consortium of 26 organisations from 11 countries, but beyond the numbers are the people. With the series “Meet the people behind DATAMITE” we want to introduce the people who work every day to achieve our ambitious goal: to deliver a modular, open-source and multi-domain Framework to improve data monetising, interoperability, trading and exchange in the form of software modules, training and business materials for European companies, empowering them to become new relevant players in the data economy.
Today we present Mariano Blaya Andreu, Director of Delivery at International Data Spaces Association (IDSA). "At the beginning of the DATAMITE project I helped/led the preparation of, what we call, the state-of-the-art involving the data spaces and the building blocks, also using the knowledge coming from IDSA, but also from Data Spaces Support Centre (DSSC)", he explains.
When asked what makes DATAMITE special, Mariano states that " the DATAMITE framework is going to play a critical role on helping the participants from the different aspects: from the quality point of view, from the monetization point of view, and from the connectivity. The DATAMITE framework is going to ease the onboarding and the connection of different sectors".

DATAMITE returns to Field Days
The National Field Days, the largest industry event in Poland, attracting thousands of visitors and hundreds of industry companies from all over Poland every year, took place from 7 to 8 June 2024. After the success of last year's edition, DATAMITE has participated again thanks to two of the consortium members: the Wielkopolska Agricultural Advisory Centre in Poznan (WODR) and the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC).
The two partners had a shared booth during the event where they presented the project and showed the latest developments to all visitors of the event. This year's focus was on solutions for data exchange between businesses and ecosystems. A topic that both partners are taking to the next level thanks to the DATAMITE use case "connecting eDWIN to data marts", where they are working together using the DATAMITE framework to overcome the challenges faced by eDWIN in relation to the lack of available data, as it relies mainly on data provided by users and different public services.

DATAMITE at Data Week 2024
The second part of Data Week 2024 took place in Leuven (Belgium) on 5 June. This second part, in conjunction with the LAILEC conference, featured sessions, panels and talks by high-level European and national speakers and leading industry and research experts in Big Data Value and Industrial AI. The main topics of this edition gravitated around the legal and ethical aspects of data and AI: AI Law Enforcement, Generative AI/Foundation Models, Data Spaces, Data Quality, Synthetic Data and AI Regulatory Sandboxes.
Under the theme Data Value Unlocked, 11 sessions were held, including "Data Value creation", in which DATAMITE participated. This session discussed relevant aspects to take into account when obtaining high value from data, especially when including the new dimension of data sharing through data spaces. Building on previous discussions, such as the sessions held during the Data Week part 1 / Symposium on Data Spaces in Darmstadt, the session brought together experts to delve deeper into some key aspects of creating value from data, presenting different perspectives on the topic and identifying new avenues of exploration. Daniel Sáez Domingo, Technology Transfer Director ITI, attended on behalf of DATAMITE to participate in the experts discussion, held during the second part of the debate.
Data Week is the spring gathering of the European Big Data and Data Driven AI research and innovation communities. Data Week is organised by the Big Data Value Association.
