DATAMITE participates at InfoCom
On December 14th, the IT Innovation Center of OTE Group of Companies hosted a session at the 25 th Infocom World 2023 Conference in Athens focused on DATAMITE, called “DATA Monetization, Interoperability, Trading & Exchange”. The organised session was part of a scientific workshop entitled as “Modern Research and Development Projects: Creating the Pillar for Investment and Innovations in the ICT converged (Vertical) Markets”.
Infocom World 2023 Conference and Exhibition aimed to deal with several potential challenges rising from ongoing EU-funded research (i.e., either specific projects and/or wider innovative frameworks) allowing to identify, describe, evaluate and assess corresponding network and services solutions, that will boost the telecommunications market as well as other relevant vertical markets to higher levels and, in parallel, will create the framework for realising investments and promoting innovation, for the benefit of all involved end-users, such as corporate, residential, State Authorities, organisations, and many more.
Santiago Caceres Elvira, Project Manager of DATAMITE at ITI, initiated the session with insights into the DATAMITE’s contributions to the European Data Monetization. Following this, Vasso Apostolopoulou, Innovation Engineer at Hellenic Telecommunications Organization, presented “Corporate Multi-Site Data Exchange”. Savvas Manikas, Data Analyst at HEDNO, continued with “Offering Data to Service Providers with Data Spaces” , and Vasilis Siopidis, Research Assistant at CERTH, concluded the session with “DATAMITE – The Architecture to Reach Monetization”. The session was moderated by Christos Gizelis, Principal Innovation Analyst at Hellenic Telecommunications Organization.
At the DATAMITE booth, hosted by the IT Innovation Center of OTE Group, some partners of the DATAMITE Consortium —HEDNO, ICCS, and AUSTRALO— were present to formally introduce the project and provide complementary information. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with both DATAMITE partners as well as the project “Digital Assistant'' – an interactive avatar.

DATAMITE at EclipseCon 2023
DATAMITE took part in EclipseCon 2023, organised in Ludwigsburg in October 2023 by the DATAMITE partner, Eclipse Foundation. EclipseCon is the leading conference for developers, architects, and open source business leaders to learn about Eclipse technologies and share best practices. Eclipse’s biggest event of the year connects the Eclipse ecosystem and the industry’s leading minds to explore common challenges and innovate together on open source runtimes, tools, and frameworks for cloud and edge applications, IoT, artificial intelligence, connected vehicles and transportation, digital ledger technologies, and much more.
This makes EclipseCon the perfect scenario for DATAMITE to meet and make itself known among the community of more than 460 developers, architects, researchers and managers who attended the conference. During the four days of the event -a community day, plus three days of conferences- DATAMITE, from the Eclipse Research booth, exhibited a poster and handed out flyers and stickers to developers and people who showed interest in the project, having wide acceptance among the developer community.

DATAMITE at the European Big Data Value Forum 2023
The European Big Data Value Forum 2023 took place from the 25th to the 27th of October 2023 in Valencia, Spain. The event, organised by the Big Data Value Association (BDVA), brings together industry professionals, business developers, researchers and policy-makers from all over Europe and other regions of the world to advance policy actions, and industrial and research activities in the areas of Data and AI.
DATAMITE could not miss the forum and was present during the three days with a booth. This allowed the members of the consortium who attended the event to promote DATAMITE, meet other European projects focused on Big Data and exchange ideas with the experts working on them. “We, DATAMITE, are very happy to be here, to be connected with all the European big data community. We are taking advantage of our presence here to discuss with sister projects and with other colleagues”, highlighted Santiago Cáceres, DATAMITE Project Coordinator.

In addition to the presence in the exhibition room, DATAMITE co-organised together with its Sister Projects PISTIS, UPCAST and FAME, the session "Technologies enabling the data economy". The session explored the pivotal role of AI, Data Trading, and Interoperability in shaping the future of the data economy. The esteemed panel of experts delved into the technologies, solutions, and frameworks driving data markets, monetization, exchange, and interoperability. The discussion was divided into two rounds, each featuring four expert speakers.
The first round, called “Innovations in Data Trading, Monetisation and Exchange”, focused on the technological advancements, solutions, and implications for data trading, monetization, and exchange. A representative from each project explained to the session attendees the differentiating element of their project, and then answered questions from the moderator, Richard Lloyd Stevens, Associate Vice President at IDC. “Data is already the core product of many companies. The most conservative estimates say that by 2030 data Will generate around 800 billion", pointed out Richard Lloyd Stevens.
Liliana Beltrán, Project Manager at ITI - Instituto Tecnológico de Informática, was in charge of representing DATAMITE and sharing DATAMITE's vision for the future of the Data Economy and the paramount importance of robust use cases. "High-quality data is a fundamental aspect of successful data monetization".

The second round of the session, “Promoting Interoperability for a Flourishing Data Economy”, delved into the critical aspect of interoperability and its significance in promoting a robust data economy. It was moderated by Jordi Arjona Aroca, from ITI and DATAMITE Technical Coordinator. “We definitely expect to be here next year to show more results and keep on with the discussions we have started this year”, concluded Santiago Cáceres, the DATAMITE coordinator.
You can read the full presentation of both parts of the session here.

DATAMITE at DATA WEEK 23
The Data Week 2023, which is the spring gathering of the European Big Data and Data Driven AI research and innovation communities, took place from the 13th to the 19th of June 2023 in Luleå, Sweden. During the event, the participants share knowledge and results, discuss topics of common interest, find synergies, build new collaborations, and identify new challenges and recommendations. Data Week is also a great opportunity to link the communities and their results to European policies and market needs and brings European initiatives and activities closer to local communities.
On the 13th of June, Liliana Beltrán, Project Manager at ITI - Instituto Tecnológico de Informática representing DATAMITE participated in the session on “Technological Enablers for the Next-Level Data Economy”. The session brought together four Horizon Europe projects (UPCAST, FAME, PISTIS and DATAMITE) that build digital technologies, solutions and interoperable frameworks for data markets and the data economy. The focus of the session was on the technologies, solutions and frameworks that the four projects are developing. Technologies that facilitate the collection, sharing, storing, processing, trading and reusing of data in compliance with the legal framework and satisfying the needs, expectations and rights of the data providers, brokers, users and data subjects.

We had the opportunity to explore the main challenges and barriers to data monetisation, and discuss DATAMITE's main objective. We also presented our modular, open-source and multi-domain Framework. “One highlight of the panel was our vision for the future of the Data Economy and the paramount importance of robust use cases. We firmly believe that to embark on a new era of the data economy, it is crucial to prioritize efforts in enhancing data quality. High-quality data is a fundamental aspect of successful data monetization”, explains Liliana Betrán.
It was an honor to share the session with other fascinating projects that are shaping the future of the data landscape. Together, we are pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the Data Economy.
Data Week 2023 is co-organised by BDVA and EUHubs4Data project in collaboration with the Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE). Data Week is the combination of local and regional events organised by the BDVA i-Spaces [i-Spaces] in the framework of the EUHubs4Data project and the main European event.
