The Open Source Community Day 2025
The Open Source Community Day, organised by the Eclipse Foundation in collaboration with EUCloudEdgeIoT.eu took place in Madrid on 23 and 24 September. The event offered EU-funded projects a unique opportunity to engage directly with the open source community, providing a space to connect, collaborate and exchange ideas. Contributors, researchers, developers and innovators from the open source community gathered in Madrid to explore the future of digital technologies and collaborative development.
As part of the event's dissemination and collaboration activities, a community session was hosted where participants could present their ongoing research, open-source initiatives and project outcomes. DATAMITE was one of the projects presented by the Eclipse Foundation, as they are part of our consortium. David Remón and his colleagues at Eclipse used the DATAMITE trifold to engage with the community at the event, talking to other researchers and developers about DATAMITE. “They were very interested in our open-source strategy and how we collaboratively built the framework”, he reflects.
Open Source Community Day 2025 was a vibrant gathering of individuals united by their passion for open-source software and technology. During the event, the importance of collaboration across borders and industries in Europe was emphasised, as was the role of open-source software in enabling researchers, developers and industries to build innovative, secure and sustainable solutions. “DATAMITE is built on open source principles, and by taking part in this initiative we strengthen links with other research projects and developers focused on data as a driver of innovation and growth in a trusted and fair manner”, says David Remón.

DATAMITE at the APMS Conference
The APMS Conference took place in Kamakura, Japan, from 31 August to 4 September. This event brought together leading international experts from academia, industry and government who specialise in manufacturing, service and logistics systems. Attendees explored cutting-edge developments in cyber-physical-human production systems. The conference addressed key challenges and advancements in smart factories and warehouses, autonomous production systems, sustainable supply chains and human-centric AI applications.
The conference featured original, high-impact academic contributions as part of its programme, with a paper on DATAMITE being one of the selected works. Martin Loers, from DATAMITE's partner FIR an der RWTH Aachen, presented the paper “Supporting Strategic Decision Making for Data Monetization in the Era of Digital Transformation”. The work, carried out in the context of DATAMITE, introduces a framework of twelve distinct data monetization strategies derived from academic research and industry case studies.

Consultation European Commission for the Forthcoming Data Union Strategy: Views of the DATAMITE Consortium
In line with its policy of contributing to open science and having a real impact on European data policies, DATAMITE is making its views on the European Commission's consultation for the forthcoming Data Union Strategy available to everyone.
Law and Internet Foundation, a DATAMITE partner, has written a policy brief in which DATAMITE aims to contribute to and enhance the forthcoming New European Strategy for Data. “In view of the launched Open Consultation on the forthcoming New European Strategy for Data, the following paragraphs are concerned with evaluating considerations drawn from the experience of DATAMITE, but also general views beyond its context, that shall serve as guiding points when deciding on the pillars of the New Strategy”, she says.
