The Data Spaces Symposium took place in Madrid, Spain, on 10–11 February. Hosted by the Data Spaces Support Centre (DSSC) in collaboration with BDVA, Gaia-X and the International Data Spaces Association, the symposium is the premier global event dedicated to the future of data spaces. It brings together pioneering thinkers, innovators and organisations that are shaping a connected, data-driven future. Under the motto ‘Accelerating adoption. Increasing Impact”, the 2026 edition showcased the ways in which data spaces facilitate collaboration and competitiveness, and demonstrate their global impact.

This marked DATAMITE‘s third consecutive year of participation at the Data Spaces Symposium. This edition was particularly important as it hosted DATAMITE’s final event, bringing to a close over three years of intensive research, development and collaboration aimed at boosting data monetisation, interoperability, trading and exchange.

In addition to the final event, DATAMITE had a strong presence throughout the two-day event with an exhibition booth, which provided attendees with a hands-on overview of some of the most impactful technologies developed within the project. Visitors could explore for themselves how the DATAMITE framework is transforming the European data market by helping users, such as including SMEs, large enterprises, and public administrations, to monetise, govern, and enhance the trustworthiness of their data.

DATAMITE’s final event

The highlight of DATAMITE’s presence at the Data Spaces Symposium 2026 was undoubtedly the final event, which took place on 11 February.  The event began with a presentation of DATAMITE highlights by Santiago Cáceres, the project coordinator from ITI. This was followed by an in-depth overview of the project’s main technical and business results and demonstrations since its launch in January 2023. This was presented by Jordi Arjona from ITI, Vasilis Siopidis from CERTH, Marko Turpeinen from 1001 Lakes and Andrea Visenting from University College Cork (UCC).

The session also included a roundtable discussion, moderated by Marcin Plociennik from Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC), and the participation of Christos Gizelis from OTE, Iason Panagos from HEDNO, and Federico Piñuela from GIDITEK which showed how the DATAMITE framework works in real pilots. There were also demonstrations of selected technologies developed within the project, showcasing their readiness for use in the real world. In a round table discussion, David Remón from Eclipse, Silvia Castelvi from DSSC and Andrés Arias from Cámara de Comercio de Medellín (CCM) Colombia explored how DATAMITE contributes to and enhances the European Data Ecosystem, and beyond the European borders. This discussion was moderated by Liliana Beltrán from ITI. The Final Event concluded with a wrap-up and a big congratulations to the whole consortium by Santiago Cáceres.

In addition to the sessions, the conference offered consortium members the special opportunity to reunite in person, with many doing so for the last time as DATAMITE will officially conclude at the end of March 2026. The Data Spaces Symposium provided a fitting and timely opportunity to reflect on DATAMITE’s journey and its impact.
